Itako: The Human Body Time Machine
Onishi Artist Residency, Onishi, Gunma, Japan July-August, 2017
Itako: The Human Body Time Machine was created over the course of five weeks at the Shiro Oni Residency in Onishi, Gunma, Japan. This video is a documentation of the research, process, classes and dance performances made all inspired by the Itako or the blind female shamans of Japan. The work ultimately unfolded into an inquiry around time travel in the human body as well as in natural environments. Itako... was also deeply influenced by and created with the local community of Onishi as well as the other artists in residents at Shiro Oni.
